Summer is finally here! That means your college kids are home for a few months, your young children are out of school, and you are ready for a vacation. Before your calendar gets booked up with summer camp, vacations, and more, make sure you schedule a dental checkup with our team at Harris Family Dental in Brookfield, WI. These biannual visits with our team help to make sure your teeth and gums are in excellent health, and we can plan restorative visits promptly to prevent major issues.
Your Very First Visit With Our Team
We generally recommend that your very first dental visit take place around the age of one year old or when your first few teeth begin to erupt. This is to make sure your teeth are developing properly, and you can get comfortable with the dentist. If you did not start seeing the dentist until later in life, that’s okay. If you are visiting our office for the very first time as an adult, we’re here to make the experience as comfortable as possible for you. Before your first visit, we have a few forms that you can fill out online. Then when you visit us, we’ll take X-rays and get to know your previous health history. We know that going to the dentist is not everyone’s favorite task, but we’re here to make it as positive as we can for you.
Consistent Cleanings & Checkups
After you have had your initial checkup with our team, it’s important that you stay on track with regular cleanings and checkups. When you come in for your biannual visit, one of our skilled dental hygienists will carefully clean your pearly whites to remove bacteria and plaque buildup. This step helps reduce the chance of cavities and can also make your teeth appear brighter. After the cleaning, your dentist will carefully examine your smile to look for signs of cavities, gum disease, and other concerns. We’ll also take X-rays on a regular basis to keep track of your smile.
Additional Restorative Care When You Need It
If you are free from cavities and other oral health concerns, we’ll see you for your next visit in six months. However, in some cases your dentist may spot decay or other problems. In this case, we’ll need to update your treatment plan to include some restorative care. Dental fillings, for example, are a commonly needed restoration for many patients. When you have a cavity, we need to remove the decayed part of the tooth and fill the area as soon as possible to avoid further damage. If needed, we’ll plan to fill the cavity or complete any necessary restorative care to protect your smile.
